I chose to shoot these subjects because I feel like they really portray today's economy and how people feel living in it. That sort of hopeless feeling, and yet feeling that glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
I feel that my portraits capture people in their element. I enjoy candid shots because they are so natural and you see people the way they are, as opposed to being posed for a photo. You get a real feeling of sincerity through candid shots which I really enjoy.
The first photo is a successful abstraction because it is not taken close-up and you still get the sense of the subject being somewhat abstract. The second photo is a successful abstraction because of the layout, you see the sidewalk but it is cropped in such a way that you begin to lose the feeling of what it really is. The third photo is a successful abstraction because it is shot very close up and you just see shapes and lines. The fourth photo is a successful abstraction because it begins to obscure the subject and you begin it get a bit confused about what you're looking at.
